Aiming for History: Bangladesh Targets Series Win in Final T20 Match with Determination"
Bangladesh secured a remarkable victory against New Zealand in a home Test after the World Cup, but couldn't clinch the series. Despite losing the first two ODIs on New Zealand soil, they bounced back to make history by winning the third, breaking a streak of 27 winless matches for the Kiwis in white-ball cricket.
In the T20 series, Bangladesh took a 1-0 lead after winning the first match against the hosts. With the second match being washed away by rain, Bangladesh remains in the lead.
The upcoming match at Mt Maunganui on December 31 provides a chance for Bangladesh to achieve their first-ever series win on Kiwi ground in any edition. Captain Hriday expressed the team's eagerness to maintain their rhythm and capitalize on this opportunity, stating, "Hope to play the last match with strength is heart. The thinking is still the same as it was in the previous matches. This is a good opportunity. To use the potential that they have. Hope to continue with the flow."
Bangladesh has had a successful T20 run this year, winning 10 out of 13 matches. With series victories against England and Afghanistan, a win against New Zealand would further illuminate their year. Hridoy expressed optimism, stating, "So far so good. All is well when the team delivers. Everyone supports everyone. Everyone from the coaching staff thinks we can. I have been doing well in this format for the past few days; I hope to do well this time as well. We believe this is our beginning. I will do better in the future. Will play with more power."
Looking ahead, with the T20 World Cup on the horizon next year, Hridoy emphasized the importance of each match, saying, "All our matches are important now. Since the T20 World Cup is not far away, every match is a big opportunity for each of our players. We will try to use the opportunity. With the World Cup coming up, I think everyone knows that. That's how everyone is working."
Despite uncertainties surrounding Liton Das's availability due to a muscle injury, Hridoy expressed confidence in the team's ability to adapt, stating, "If Dada (Liton) is not in our team, we have to play with what we have." He also highlighted the collaborative nature of T20 cricket, stating, "T20 is a game of 2-3 people. If our 2-3 batsmen start well, then we will play it well, inshallah."
