India Extends Partnership with Rahul Dravid as Head Coach
Speculation had been rife ever since the heartbreaking loss in the World Cup final on home soil, suggesting the end of Rahul Dravid's tenure as India's head coach. However, contrary to these unfounded rumors, the legendary batsman is set to continue in his coaching role, with the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) opting to renew his contract.
Under the terms of the new agreement, Dravid will remain the coach of the Indian cricket team until the conclusion of the next T20 World Cup. Reports from ESPN Cricinfo indicate that VVS Laxman might join him as an assistant coach. Both Dravid and Laxman are expected to receive support staff visas for the upcoming South Africa tour.
Recent discussions between the BCCI and Dravid have paved the way for this contract extension. If Dravid consents to continue leading the team, the board intends to retain the services of batting coach Vikram Rathore, bowling coach Parash Mambre, and fielding coach T Dilip. All three will continue their roles as part of the coaching staff, a decision stemming from Dravid's commitment to the team.
It is noteworthy that Dravid assumed the role of head coach before the 2021 T20 World Cup following Ravi Shastri's departure. Under his guidance, India reached the semi-finals of the Test Championship and the T20 World Cup, securing victory in the Asia Cup this year. Dravid has led India to the top in all three formats, showcasing his prowess as a coach and leader.
