Bangladeshi Umpire Sharfuddaula to Officiate in Australia-West Indies Test Series
Renowned Bangladeshi umpire, Sharfuddaula Ibn Shaheed Saikat, who showcased impressive skills during the last ODI World Cup, is set to achieve another milestone. Having previously umpired Test matches in Bangladesh, he is now poised to officiate as the first neutral umpire on foreign soil, overseeing the upcoming Test series between Australia and West Indies.
In his distinguished career, Sharfuddaula has umpired nine Test matches within Bangladesh. However, this marks his inaugural venture into conducting a neutral series outside his home country. The 44-year-old umpire is scheduled to serve as the third umpire in the first Test in Adelaide on January 17, followed by on-field duties in the subsequent day-night Test in Brisbane. Additionally, he will officiate in three ODIs between Australia and West Indies.
This achievement follows in the footsteps of Enamul Haque Moni, who previously served as the first neutral umpire for Bangladesh on foreign soil during a Test match between New Zealand and Zimbabwe in 2012.
Sharfuddaula, having officiated in a total of five matches, including the Australia-New Zealand clash in the last World Cup, brings a wealth of experience. With a track record of 13 Tests, 85 ODIs, and 59 International T20 matches, he stands as the sole umpire to officiate 100 matches as the first Bangladeshi umpire in boys' international cricket.
