Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman is playing for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Joining the new franchise, he has been on fire in the very first match. He got four wickets in the debut match. This is his first four-wicket haul in IPL career.
Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and batted first in the opening match of the IPL at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Chennai on Friday. After losing five wickets for 78 off Mustafiz's bowling, the team finally scored 173 for 6. Mustafiz got 4 wickets at the cost of 29 runs by bowling four overs.
This is Mustafiz's career best bowling in IPL. Earlier, his IPL career best bowling figure was 3 for 16 runs against Mumbai Indians in his debut in 2016 for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
But if Matisha Patirana was healthy, Mustafiz would not have been in the XI. The Lankan pacer suffered a hamstring injury in the second T20 match against Bangladesh in Sylhet. That's why the opportunity is easily matched by Mustafiz.
Chennai brought Mustafiz to attack in the fifth over of the innings. Bajimat in the first over! Du Plessy picked up a boundary off his second ball. However, Mustafiz hit back with the next ball. Ravindra was caught by Rachin Du Plessy at deep point in an attempt to pick up another boundary. However, this all-rounder took a great catch.
Mustafiz also picked up Rajat Patidar for three in the same over. This batsman could not bat the first two balls. When the last ball was going to drive, it hit the edge of the bat and went into the hands of wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Then the cutter master came to bowl in the twelfth over. He picked up Virat Kohli, one of the best batsmen of the time, on the second ball. He went for the pool on his slower bouncer. However, at deep midwicket, Ajinkya Rahane and Racine Ravindra turned into tiki-taka catches. Rahane was unable to control the catch and went towards the boundary line and threw Racine.
Mustafiz dismissed Cameron Green after one ball. The Australian batsman went to cut his short length ball backwards. But if he missed the line, he got bowled.
Then Mustafiz came to bowl again in the 17th over. But did not get any wicket. He created two chances in his last over in the 19th over but did not get a wicket. In the end he had to be satisfied with four wickets.
