Tamim's Future Decision Deferred Until After BPL
Tamim Iqbal's fate within the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) underwent deliberation in a recent meeting with BCB chief Nazmul Hasan Papon. Originally scheduled for Sunday, the meeting had to be rescheduled due to Papon's preoccupation with national election nominations. However, the critical discussion transpired on Monday at Nazmul Hasan's residence, with the presence of Jalal Yunus, chairman of the Cricket Operation department.
The primary objective of this meeting was to assess Tamim's future with the national team. Following extensive discussions, Nazmul Hasan informed the media that a decision regarding Tamim's status would be deferred until after the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Tamim Iqbal, absent from the national team since September 23 and not included in the World Cup squad, expressed his intention to engage in discussions with the BCB to determine his future. Following the meeting with the BCB president, Tamim refrained from making any statements. However, Nazmul Hasan Papon addressed the media, stating, "A decision about Tamim will be made after the BPL. He will not return before then. At the end of my term, I have some tough decisions to make before I step down."
Reflecting on the meeting with Tamim, Nazmul Hasan shared, "Tamim had expressed a desire to meet two or three years ago. In our last conversation, he mentioned wanting to share a lot with me, and I agreed. However, not all that he conveyed today was discussed due to time constraints."
The BCB president emphasized that his decision-making process would not be swayed by external influence. He expressed his commitment to thoroughly assess the situation and gather information before reaching a conclusion. Nazmul Hasan revealed, "Tamim mentioned certain issues. However, he brought it up at a time when I have no available time, given the upcoming election. I will delve into the problems post-election, understanding the intricacies. I won't base my decision on hearsay. I will engage with everyone, players, and coaching staff alike. Together, we will make decisions that are in the best interest of cricket once the BPL commences."
