Although the T20 World Cup was decided on June 29, the Indian cricket team could not return home due to Hurricane Beryl. They set foot on Indian soil 105 hours after winning the title when nature calmed down. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav started the celebration on reaching the ground on Thursday morning. There are various arrangements to welcome them.
The Indian team arrived on the ground at 6:50 a.m. local time on Thursday. After a one-way reception from the airport, Rohit was taken to a five-star hotel in Delhi. After some rest there, they met the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. Then they moved to Mumbai. There will be a World Cup festival. An open-top bus has been kept ready for the Rohits. They will tour the city in that bus with the World Cup title.
Airports in the West Indies have been closed since last Sunday due to Hurricane Beryl. As a result, the Indian team could not return home as per the scheduled schedule. BCCI contacted the Air India authorities and arranged a special flight to solve the problem. A flight from Newark, New Jersey to Barbados. Then Rohit-Kohli returned to the country after a 16-hour journey on that special plane.
In 2007, India won the title in the first edition of the T20 World Cup. After 17 years, they won the title again. India beat South Africa by 7 runs in the thrilling final held in Barbados on June 29. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja said goodbye to this format after winning the World Cup.
