Healy Sets New Record with Stellar Performance in Women's ODI
Australian captain and wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy showcased her prowess by scoring 82 runs in the final ODI against India at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, establishing a new milestone as the highest individual innings by a captain-wicketkeeper in women's ODIs.
Having assumed the role of ODI captain in July last year, Healy, who took over from Meg Lanning, led the team in three editions after Lanning's retirement in December. Prior to this innings, Healy's highest score in her eight innings as captain-wicketkeeper was 38 runs. By surpassing the previous record held by Babette de Lidie of the Netherlands, Healy's remarkable achievement highlights her evolving leadership and batting prowess.
Notably, Healy's innings of 82 breaks the previous record of 76 runs set by Babette against Ireland in August 2022. Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Jyoti ranks second in the list of highest innings as a captain-wicketkeeper, having played an innings of 73 runs against New Zealand in 2022.
Healy also shares a historic opening partnership record with Phoebe Litchfield, as the duo's 189-run stand against India broke a 51-year record for the highest opening partnership in women's ODIs. Litchfield contributed significantly with a remarkable century, scoring 119 runs. Australia's dominating performance resulted in a comprehensive victory by 190 runs, securing a 3-0 series win against India.
