After getting out in the fourth over of the Bangladesh innings, Tawheed Hriday got into an argument with the Sri Lankan cricketers. The right-handed batsman is being punished for breaching level-1 of the ICC code of conduct.
The ICC confirmed the punishment in a statement on Sunday (March 10) evening. Tawheed was fined 15 percent of the match fee as punishment.
In a statement, the ICC said that the spirit of the game was destroyed by engaging in tawheed arguments with the Lankan cricketers as per the Code of Conduct clause 2.20. Tawheed got 1 demerit point along with fine. This is his first demerit point in the last 24 months.
A formal hearing was not required as Tawheed accepted the penalty handed down by match referee Andy Pycroft. The two umpires of the field, Sharfuddaula Saikat, Tanveer Ahmed and third umpire Gazi Sohail brought this charge against Tawheed.
It should be noted that breaking the ICC Level-1 code of conduct will result in a fine of up to 50 percent of the match fee and 1 or 2 demerit points.
