Sri Lanka's seasoned cricketer, Angelo Mathews, makes a comeback to the T20 team after an almost three-year absence. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) recently announced the 16-man squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, including the return of Mathews and other experienced players.
In addition to Mathews, spinners Akila Dhananjaya and Kamindu Mendis are back in the team after their last appearance in 2021. Mathews' return is strategically aligned with the upcoming T20 World Cup, with Sri Lanka aiming to leverage his wealth of experience. Having played 78 T20Is for Sri Lanka, Mathews brings a valuable contribution, scoring 1,148 runs with a strike rate of 117.74 and taking 38 wickets.
The three-match T20 series between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe is scheduled to commence on Sunday, January 14, with subsequent matches on January 16 and 18.
