Bangladesh Falls Short Despite Fargana Hoque Pinky's Century in Second ODI
In the opening One Day International (ODI), the Bangladesh bowlers demonstrated their prowess by dismissing the host team, South Africa, for a mere 131 runs. However, the tables turned in the second ODI, as South Africa faced no significant challenges and leveled the series by losing only two wickets while chasing Bangladesh's target of 223 runs.
Fargana Hoque Pinky, who had previously scored a century against India in Dhaka, showcased her batting prowess once again with a remarkable innings of 102 runs against the Proteas on Wednesday. Despite her efforts, Bangladesh managed to accumulate a total of 222 runs, losing four wickets in the process.
Responding to Bangladesh's target of 223 runs, the Proteas' batsmen launched an aggressive counterattack against the Bangladeshi bowlers. The opening pair of Laura Olvard and Tazmin Brits constructed a formidable partnership of 106 runs. Ritu Moni, however, managed to break this threatening partnership. At that point, the hosts had already paved their way to victory. Tazmin contributed with a half-century, scoring 50 runs off 84 balls with 2 fours and 1 six. In the following over, Fahim Khatun dismissed Laura, who concluded her innings with 54 runs, featuring 3 fours off 67 balls.
The remaining journey to victory was smoothly navigated by the duo of Anneke Bosch and Sune Luz. Their unbroken partnership of 117 runs ensured that the Proteas reached the port of victory, losing only two wickets before 29 balls. Despite Fargana Hoque Pinky's impressive century, Bangladesh fell short in the second ODI against South Africa.
