Mithun-Ngarava's brilliant performance gave Sylhet its first win
Sylhet strikers were devastated by one loss after another. After five consecutive defeats, the regular captain Mashrafe bin Mortuza also withdrew citing political engagement. Under the leadership of a new captain, their fortunes changed in a new jersey with the theme of language month. The finalists of the last BPL got a victory in the 6th match. Mohammad Mithun's team won this tournament by crushing the great Dhaka.
Sylhet won by 15 runs on Friday at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The host team scored 142 with Mithun's 59 runs and Ariful Haque's cameo. Later, Dhaka's innings was shattered by Richard Ngaravar's left-arm pace, they were bundled out for 127 runs. Ngarava took 4 wickets for 30 runs after batting 4 overs.
Chasing 143 runs, Dhaka started badly. Pakistan's Saim Ayyub was dismissed in the second over. Naeem Sheikh, who created a storm in the previous match, could not match himself today. Zimbabwean pacer Ngarava gave Sylhet a great start by bringing these two back.
Saif Hasan and Alex Ross were trying to resist. Despite getting a pair of 31 runs, they put 28 balls in it. This pair broke when Saif was run out for 17 off 19 balls. Rezaur Rahman Raja caught Ross who made 20 off 18 balls after his partner's departure. Afghanistan's Gulbadin Naib was brought into the team by Dhaka with high expectations. The batsman, who had a great performance against India a few days ago, failed for the second time in a row. He scored 12 runs off 18 balls. Before that, Irfan Sukkur departed after wasting 9 balls and scoring 4 runs. This sluggish batting in the middle overs made the team's foundation in disarray.
Mosaddek Hossain Saikat also could not make himself necessary in the middle order. Dhaka lost 9 wickets before the hundred due to extreme batting collapse. All the excitement of the match was ground by that time.
Sylhet strikers also fell into extreme disaster after getting batted earlier today. Three top order Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Shamsur Rahman Shubo and Zakir Hasan who were in rhythm got out in the power play. All three were bowled by left-arm pacer Shariful Islam.
Shanta, who lost himself in the BPL, returned to double digits even today. Shubo and Zakir could not open the account of runs. After losing 3 wickets for 13 runs, captain Mithun took control of the team's disaster with Samit Patel. The duo scored 57 runs off 49 balls. Arafat Sani broke the pair back to Samit who made 32 off 32 balls.
After that Ryan Burl, Benny Howell could not, but Ariful Haque gave great support to Mithun. They brought the team back into the fight by adding 27 runs from 13 balls in the slog over. Ariful played a stormy innings of 21 runs off 9 balls. 59 runs came from Mithun's bat with 4 boundaries and 3 sixes in 46 balls before returning in the last over. The host team, who were in the lead in the first 10 overs, turned the corner in the last 10 overs.
