Sports Federations Advised on Anti-Corruption Measures
In a meeting with top officials from women's sports bodies, including Archery, Shooting, Athletics, Swimming, Volleyball, Basketball, Weightlifting, and Carrom Federation, Minister Papon addressed concerns and grievances raised by the federations. While acknowledging the need for improvements, Papon assured the officials of his commitment to resolving the issues presented.
Following the meeting, Papon shared insights into the discussions, stating, "Among the federations that I sat with today, two federations have suggested making a complex together. Apart from this, the financial needs of the rest of the federations are much less than I thought, not even 5 percent of what I thought." He expressed optimism about meeting the demands received so far, adding, "I will try to address these issues in the next budget after six months. I will arrange to fulfill what they want. If not from the government, we will try to fulfill their needs by taking from the private sector."
Emphasizing accountability, Papon stated, "I believe with all my heart that whatever is given to whomever is given, will be held to account. It must be ensured that it is being used in the right place. No exemption will be given to anyone here."
While the federations did not extensively discuss the financial and social security of players during the meeting, Papon expressed his willingness to engage with athletes directly if needed. Additionally, plans were mentioned regarding the allocation of space to five more federations in the Sheikh Hasina International Cricket Stadium under construction in the east of the capital. Papon also highlighted separate discussions with the Olympic Association and specific sports bodies like shooting, archery, swimming, and volleyball.
