The process of forming the Interim Committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board is almost at the end.
As the current president of BCB is staying abroad, complications arise with this post. Since then the names of Syed Ashraful Haque and Nazmul Abedin Fahim have been discussed as presidents. However, the current interim government has confidence in Farooq Ahmed.
According to a reliable source of BCB, a delegation of the highest policy-making level held a private meeting with Farooq Ahmed on Saturday night. In the meeting, BCB's constitution and ICC's obligations were discussed.
According to the constitution of BCB, one of the directors will be elected as the president. However, Farooq Ahmed is not on the directorship of BCB. That is why he will be nominated by the National Sports Council and brought to the BCB as a director. After that he will be given the responsibility as president by the vote of BCB directors. The quorum required to vote the directors is also ready, Desh Parwanam has learned.
National Sports Council nominated directors Jalal Yunus and Sajjadul Alam Bobby in the current committee of BCB. However, a source said that their names are being omitted from the interim committee. The replacement of these two is one Farooq Ahmed. The name of the other is yet to be finalised.
Asif Mahmood, advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, was asked about the BCB committee in a press conference at the secretariat on Sunday morning. There he hinted at the quickest possible solution, though not clearly. He said, 'Work is ongoing in this regard. I don't want to comment before reaching a solution. I hope you will get good news as soon as possible.
Farooq Ahmed has previously served as the chief selector of Bangladesh national team for two terms. He also led the team in the ICC Trophy held in Kenya in 1994.
