Renowned British coach Peter James Butler has landed in Dhaka to assume leadership at Buffe Elite Academy. The 57-year-old coaching veteran, who arrived at 2 pm on Wednesday, is set to guide Buff's elite academy over the next year.
While Butler's deal had been finalized earlier, his official start date was delayed due to the national elections. The former midfielder, who enjoyed a 17-year playing career in various clubs in the English Premier League and EPL-East Football League, including stints with West Ham United, transitioned to coaching in 2002. His extensive coaching career of 23 years saw him last serve as the coach of the Liberia national team before becoming a free agent last year.
Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan Manik, the vice-president of BAFUF and head of the development committee, expressed optimism that Butler's leadership would propel BAFFE Elite Academy forward. Amid aspirations to accommodate 300 to 400 footballers in the academy, the focus is also on addressing the housing crisis. Despite the challenges, the anticipation is that the new coach will play a significant role in resolving the football-related issues facing the country.
After the departure of former British technical director Paul Smalley, local coaches temporarily took charge of the academy's operations."
