280 in the first innings is not a very high score in Tests. As such, it can be said that Sri Lanka has been stopped by Bangladesh. On the first day of the first Test, the hosts batted all out the Lankans. However, Bangladesh also batted on Sylhet's pace-friendly wicket. Lankan pacers took three wickets.
Biswa Fernando trapped opener Zakir Hasan leg before for team 11 runs. Eight runs came from Zakir's bat. Nazmul Hossain Shanta, who went down in one down, was also shown the way back by Fernando. Shanta scored five runs before the leg. Both Zakir and Shant appealed against the outs, both reviews were lost.
Mominul Haque could not facilitate. Bangladesh's Test specialist Kasun Rajithar scored just five runs and was caught by Kamindu Mendis.
Bangladesh has fallen behind in one direction due to two reviews being lost. According to the rules of review, if it succeeds, it stays. If it fails, it is eliminated. And in Tests, a review is given after every 80 overs. As a result, Bangladesh's other batsmen will not have the opportunity to appeal against the dubious dismissal even if they want to.
Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy will open the batting for Bangladesh on the second day and Taijul Islam, who has been brought in as the night watchman.
Earlier, the visiting Sri Lanka were bowled out on the first day in the first innings of the first Test. The team collected 280 runs after losing all wickets in 68 overs.
