According to Cricbuzz, the ICC is now looking to make the rule permanent after it got results from its trial run. This rule will be enforced in every white ball match by the governing body of cricket. The rule was approved at the ongoing ICC meeting in Dubai.
ICC started working on 'stop clock' in cricket long ago. But did not implement. This law is currently under examination. The ICC will implement the stop clock system on a trial basis from December to April 2024, but will implement the rule in the T20 World Cup in June.
For now, this rule will be introduced only in T20 and ODIs. Under this rule, the fielding team will get 60 seconds at the end of each over before starting a new over. A new over has to start before the end of this 60 second period. The field umpire will warn the fielding team twice for the first two breaches of this rule. If the rule is broken for the third time, there will be a penalty of 5 runs.
