BCB President Warns Media: 'Everything Has a Limit'
The Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) President, Nazmul Hasan Papon, has issued a stern warning to various media outlets, including online platforms and private television channels, regarding recent news publications on multiple issues. The prominent topic has been the Mushfiqur fixing scandal, particularly a report from a private television channel in 2011 that raised doubts about Mushfiqur's dismissal and accused him of spot-fixing. Papon is addressing these matters with a serious threat to the media.
After a recent match, Papon addressed the media, stating, 'No more leniency; the truth is becoming evident to the public. Everything has its limits. When those limits are surpassed, people realize it is not journalism.'
When asked about BCB's stance on various issues, including misleading reports and the recent TV channel report implicating Mushfiqur Rahim in fixing, Papon did not provide a clear position but hinted at impending actions. He said, 'I mentioned a few days ago, and I've said before that some decisions have to be made to improve cricket, decisions that people won't like. I know everyone will criticize me. Do we have a choice?'
Expressing concern about the impact of false information on cricket, Papon highlighted a shift in public perception. He remarked, 'There was a time when people would accept false information without question. Now, even amidst these lies, the public is gradually turning against it. They are talking about destroying cricket. This is what we've been anticipating. BCB will take the necessary steps. The players are catching up because something is not working anymore. Their objective is crystal clear.'
Papon then questioned the overall discipline within the cricket community, avoiding discussion about his board peers. He queried, 'Is there such a thing as discipline? I don't believe so at this time. Can discipline be instilled? By anyone? Many of my board members think so, and I believe I am supportive of that.'**
