Bangladesh women's football star, Sanjida Akhter, has been invited to join the renowned Indian club, East Bengal. Mahfuza Akhter Kiran, the chairwoman of Bafuf's Women's Committee, confirmed Sanjida's selection, addressing the media.
Mahfuza Akhter Kiran, the head of the women's football wing, stated on Monday (January 15), "Despite the league being scheduled to commence in February, we may face delays due to field issues, potentially taking two months. Given the opportunity, I ensured they wouldn't miss it. Sabina left today, and Sanjida will follow suit in the coming days."
In the nineties, the late legendary Bangladeshi footballer, Monem Munna, donned the East Bengal jersey in Kolkata. Other notable players such as Sheikh Mohammad Aslam, Golam Ghaus, and Rizvi Karim Rumi also played for East Bengal during that era.
Sanjida is eagerly anticipating her role in the women's team of this prestigious club and has initiated the visa application process. Meanwhile, the national team captain, Sabina Khatun, departed for India in the afternoon. Both players are under contract with their respective clubs until March.
Currently, East Bengal occupies the fifth position in the Indian Women's Football League points table, securing 3 points from a single victory in 4 matches. They faced defeat in the remaining 3 matches. Odisha FC leads the league table with 12 points from 4 consecutive victories, while Sabina's club, Kickstart FC, holds the second position with 10 points obtained from draws.
