Miraj Proposes Shifting BPL Timing for Enhanced Player Availability
Mehdi Hasan Miraj, in a brief interaction after leaving the cricket board, suggested reconsidering the timing of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Expressing concerns about overlapping with other franchise-based leagues worldwide, Miraj, an all-rounder from Fortune Barisal, believes that organizing the BPL at a different time could attract more player participation.
Miraj urged authorities to engage in discussions, emphasizing the potential benefits. He stated, "If those involved in the BPL consider the global league schedule, aligning our tournament with a period when fewer leagues are ongoing might result in greater player availability."
With franchise-based leagues scheduled in South Africa, New Zealand, England, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates during the BPL season, teams are faced with challenges in securing foreign players. Miraj acknowledged this issue and proposed collaborative discussions within the BPL authorities to explore alternative timings.
While recognizing the congested international schedule as a potential reason for the current BPL timing, Miraj emphasized the need for strategic planning. He suggested, "If they (BPL authorities) sit down and discuss, involving the tournament committee, it will definitely be beneficial."
The upcoming tenth season of the BPL is set to commence on January 19, featuring seven teams in a 43-day tournament across Dhaka, Chittagong, and Sylhet, totaling 46 matches.
