Rangpur, the one-time champion of the tournament, chose Nurul Hasan Sohan as the captain. The team played under this wicketkeeper batsman for the last time. Today the leadership of the 2017 champions was confirmed by the CEO of the team, Ishtiaq Sadek.
Ishtiaq said that Nurul Hasan Sohan has become Bashundhara's captain. Shakib Al Hasan was asked to give, but he won't. It was already known that Shakib would not lead Rangpur. Coach Sohail Islam told the newspaper yesterday that because of his disinterest, the team is making plans with Sohan.
Rangpur coach Sohail said, "Rangpur Riders and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club are the same team, the same owner (Basundhara Group). Sohan has performed the duty last time too.' And Sohail said about Shakib's reluctance, 'There is a matter of age, at some point you can't take too much pressure.'
Sohan also led Rangpur in today's warm-up match against the great Dhaka. The wicketkeeper batsman also led the team from the front in defeating the opponent by 14 runs. Rangpur collected 176 runs for 4 wickets based on his brilliant 69-run innings from 43 balls. In response, Dhaka could not score more than 162 runs for 6 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs.
