Captain Shanto Finds Confidence in Bangladesh's ODI Win, Eyes T20 Series
New Zealand arrived in Bangladesh with high hopes of securing the series victory, but their aspirations were thwarted as Bangladesh emerged triumphant in the final ODI. Despite losing the series 2-1, Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto remains content, emphasizing that the win provides a much-needed boost in confidence for the upcoming T20 series.
In the match held in Napier, Bangladesh defeated the hosts by 9 wickets, with Shanto contributing significantly by scoring an unbeaten 51 runs on the way to victory. Reflecting on the match and the series, Shanto expressed satisfaction with the collective effort of the bowlers.
Addressing the pivotal role of bowler Shariful Islam in changing the momentum of the game, Shanto said, "When Shariful came in the second spell and gave away two wickets, the momentum turned to us. I don't want to give credit to just one person. I think every bowler bowled with responsibility and managed to bowl according to what I had planned."
In the previous two matches, the Kiwi batsmen adeptly handled the Bangladeshi pacers, adapting to the extra swing and bounce from the new ball. However, in the latest match, Shanto praised the pacers for their excellence throughout the innings.
Regarding the wicket conditions, Shanto mentioned, "There was no extra advantage on this wicket. But something helped the pacers in the morning. What I tried to do was to bowl the pacers for as long as I could."
Responding to whether he anticipated New Zealand being all out for 98 runs, Shanto admitted, "No, I did not think so. What we've done throughout the series is follow the process. When we bowled well for long periods, we got wickets."
