Dhoni Expresses Desire for Army Service Post Cricket Retirement
Former Indian cricket captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who led the team to two World Cup victories, has revealed his intention to dedicate more time to the army after retiring from cricket. Dhoni, previously seen in army uniform during a 15-day stint as an Honorary Lieutenant in Kashmir at the end of the 2019 ODI World Cup, expressed his eagerness to further engage with the army in response to a recent query about his post-cricket plans.
During an event, Dhoni shared, "I never thought of it. I am still playing cricket. I am playing IPL. It will be very interesting to see what he does after quitting cricket. I definitely want to spend more time with the army. Because I couldn't do that for the last few years." The video of Dhoni's response has quickly gone viral on social media.
Beyond his cricket career, Dhoni has demonstrated his affection for the Indian Army, both on and off the field. He has been spotted wearing army-patterned gloves while standing behind the wicket. In a notable instance, Dhoni planned to don an army cap during the third ODI against Australia on March 8, 2019, in his hometown Ranchi. This gesture was in solidarity with the Indian soldiers who lost their lives in a militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir on February 14 of the same year.
