"Gautam Gambhir Returns to Kolkata Knight Riders as Mentor: A Homecoming for the IPL-Winning Captain"
Gautam Gambhir has made a triumphant return to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after parting ways with the Lucknow Super Giants. The franchise officially announced his appointment as the 'mentor' on Wednesday.
Gambhir, a two-time IPL-winning captain with KKR in 2012 and 2014, holds the unique distinction of being the only captain to secure an IPL title for Shah Rukh Khan's team. His leadership played a pivotal role in Kolkata's success during his tenure from 2011 to 2017. After a stint with Lucknow Super Giants, where he served as a mentor for the past two seasons, Gambhir is back for his second term with KKR.
Lucknow, having reached the playoffs in the previous season, has enlisted the services of Australia's World Cup-winning coach, Justin Langer, for the upcoming season. This strategic move prompted Gambhir to make the switch back to Kolkata.
Expressing his excitement on social media, Gambhir shared, "I am not only returning to KKR, but I am also coming back to the 'City of Joy'—Kolkata. I am hungry, I am number 23, I am KKR."
Shah Rukh Khan conveyed his thoughts on Gambhir's return, stating, "Gambhir has been a part of our family. He transitioned from being a captain to a mentor. We felt the void of his seriousness. I look forward to seeing Gambhir collaborate with coach Chandrakant Pandit. They are a duo that doesn't know how to lose and will undoubtedly create magic for KKR."
