Shariful Islam Reflects on His Hat-Trick and Dhaka's Thrilling Victory
Following a challenging journey, Shariful Islam has emerged as a shining star, beginning with his triumph in the Youth World Cup in 2020 and establishing himself as one of the national team's premier bowlers. The talented cricketer, who enjoyed a successful year, kicked off the new year in style with a sensational hat-trick for Durdanta Dhaka in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Shariful's outstanding performance not only secured a remarkable victory for Dhaka but also earned him the title of Man of the Match.
In a press conference after the match, Shariful shared his emotions, expressing gratitude, "Alhamdulillah, I want to start this year the way I finished last year. The first match was like that, and I will try to continue the momentum. Mirpur's wicket was better today, it looked very good, carrying the ball. It was a good scoring wicket."
The young bowler was thrilled to have his entire family present at the game, stating, "Especially my family came to the ground today to watch the first game, and I got a hat-trick that day; it's very good." Despite initially not realizing the hat-trick, Shariful maintained focus, thinking he still had three more balls to make an impact.
Reflecting on his strategy after conceding two sixes, Shariful shared, "After taking two sixes, I was thinking about how to control the run rate. My goal was to bowl dot balls and prevent the score from getting bigger. Taskin bhai and Mosaddek bhai suggested a change of pace, considering the slightly different bounce on the wicket."
Stopping the current champions for 143 runs, Dhaka faced a challenging task at the beginning, but Shariful believed in victory, stating, "When we went into the dressing room, we all believed that we would win the match. The goal is within our reach. If we start well, inshallah, we will win. It was the start we wanted, as a batsman's dream." Shariful's resilient performance and determination set a positive tone for Dhaka in the BPL, showcasing his potential as a key player in the team's success.**
