Zimbabwe Cricketers Wesley Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta Face Bans for Drug Use
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has imposed bans on Wesley Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta following their admission of drug use during a disciplinary hearing held yesterday. Both players have been suspended for four months and fined 50 percent of their salaries, effective from January 2024.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Cricket emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs and drug use, considering such actions as serious offences that tarnish the organization's reputation and the integrity of the sport. The Disciplinary Committee took various factors into account before reaching its decision. Both Madhevere and Mavuta expressed remorse and are committed to overcoming their addiction.
The ban stems from their positive drug tests conducted in December last year
Brandon Mavuta, who made his debut in 2018, has represented Zimbabwe in 4 Tests, 12 ODIs, and 10 T20Is to date. Meanwhile, Wesley Madhevere debuted in ODI cricket against Bangladesh in 2020. The 23-year-old batsman has played two Tests, 36 ODIs, and 60 T20Is so far.
