The performance of the national team cricketers in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is quite disappointing. Ahead of the busy schedule of the national team, cricketers like Shanta-Litton-Tawheed are suffering from lack of form. Shakib Al Hasan of Rangpur Riders did not want to discuss the form of the locals.
Liton Das and Nazmul Hossain Shanto, the two openers of the national team, failed consistently. Litton scored 37 runs in 5 matches. Shanta 73 in 7 matches. There is no explanation for the two outs. The bowler is gifted with wickets every time. Tawheed Hridoy, who came into the limelight with the last BPL, scored 126 runs in 5 matches. Tanjid Tamim 132 runs in 6 matches. Enamul Haque Vijay scored 142 runs in 5 matches despite playing two match-winning innings. Zakir Hasan scored 193 runs in 7 matches but could not contribute to Sylhet's only win.
National team selectors and local coaches questioned the performance of the cricketers. However, the captain of the national team, Shakib Al Hasan, is not at all concerned about his performance. Rather, he is thinking that he can have a relaxed feeling as he is in the game. He believes that everyone will overcome their form when the national team starts. Shakib, playing BPL for Rangpur Riders, came to the press conference after playing the last match of the Sylhet phase on Saturday. When the topic of the national team came up there, Shakib's straightforward answer was, 'It is better not to discuss it. When everyone plays in the national team… I think everyone is in their place. It is in good condition.
Spinners perform better than pacers in bowling. Mahedi Hasan took 10 wickets in 6 matches at an economy rate of 5.83. Pacer Shariful got 10 wickets at 8.36 economy. Besides, Tanvir 9, Hasan Mahmud and Mostafizur Rahman got 7 wickets each. Shakib blamed the wicket and the condition for the performance not being of good quality or up to expectations, 'BPL is a tough competition. This time the wickets are not ideal. Last time the wicket and conditions were very good. A lot of runs were also scored. Which is not actually happening this time.
Shakib also said, 'Naturally, the players of the national team become a little relaxed when they play more. Maybe a tournament like this is taking time. Maybe the team will do well by going to the World Cup to build up from here. I don't think there is anything to be disappointed or worried about. I am sure those who will be in the team will do well from their place. The team has been doing well in the T20 format for the last one and a half years. I hope everyone does well.'
