Shibli, Inspired by Kohli, Emerges as the Hero of the Asia Cup Victory
Opener Ashikur Rahman Shibli showcased stellar performance during the Youth Asia Cup, amassing an impressive total of 378 runs in five matches. With two half-centuries and a century to his name, the batsman, maintaining an average of 126, received a warm reception at the cricketing home today.
Expressing his gratitude during the reception, Shibli remarked, "Alhamdulillah, it feels incredible. Winning the championship with my team is more important to me than my individual performance. The satisfaction comes from the team's success. At the moment, my focus is solely on playing under-19 cricket."
When questioned about the secret behind his success, he replied, "Every player aspires to excel. We aim to contribute positively, and the results will follow. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) provides us with excellent facilities, and it would be great if we can make the most of them."
Elaborating on his playing style, Shibli stated, "I stuck to my game plan, emphasizing patience, and it paid off. Ariful, our senior, has been incredibly dedicated, open-minded, and supportive. Team cohesion is vital for achieving collective success. Without strong bonds, individual performances alone wouldn't secure victories, and we wouldn't be champions."
Denying any preconceived notions on the field, he asserted, "I never approached the game with the mindset of becoming the highest run-scorer. My focus has always been on fulfilling the team's requirements."
Reflecting on his cricketing influences, Shibli attributed his learnings to his district coach and his brother, emphasizing, "I follow the footsteps of my favorite cricketer, Virat Kohli, who has been a significant source of inspiration for me."
