NSC Urges Enhanced Security Measures to Counter Rising Drug Activity around Dhaka's Stadiums
The ongoing renovation work at the Bangabandhu National Stadium has inadvertently led to an upswing in drug-related issues, prompting officials to express concerns about increased drug use and the presence of drug addicts in the vicinity. Several federation officials have voiced these concerns over the past few days, highlighting the need for immediate attention.
In response to the escalating situation, Sheikh Hamim Hassan, the Director (Administration) of the National Sports Council (NSC), has issued a letter to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Motijheel Zone. The letter emphasizes the imperative to augment the police force around the stadium areas to address the surge in drug-related activities.
In his letter, Hamim Hassan stated, "It has come to our attention from various sources that there has been a noticeable increase in the sale of drugs and the presence of drug addicts around the mentioned stadiums." He further requested the Deputy Commissioner to implement necessary measures to intensify regular police patrolling around both the Bangabandhu National Stadium and Maulana Bhasani Stadium, both falling under the jurisdiction of the NSC.
The NSC's proactive approach aims to curb the growing concerns surrounding drug-related issues and ensure the safety and security of these sporting facilities during the ongoing renovation period.
