BKSP Football Team Faces Year-long Ban Following Identity Controversy
The Bangladesh Sports Education Institution (BKSP) football team has incurred a one-year ban from participating in domestic football, as declared by the disciplinary committee of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).
The ban stems from the revelation that BKSP players had been participating in lower-tier leagues under two different identities. BFF became aware of this discrepancy and subsequently engaged in discussions with the implicated players, coaches, and officials to investigate the matter further. In light of their findings, the Buff Disciplinary Committee has rendered several decisions.
Senior football coach Shahinul Haque and coach Rabiul Islam of BKSP have both been banned from football-related activities for a period of one year. This decision was reached by Buff after determining the coaches' involvement in the alteration of players' names. Additionally, the two coaches have been fined 25,000 taka each.
In consequence of the identity controversy, the three players who changed their names will face a ban from participating in the next six matches for their respective teams. Furthermore, BKSP itself has been handed a one-year ban from football activities and fined Tk 1 lakh, with the payment required by January 6.
