Bollywood Stars Enter Cricket Fray with Indian Street Premier League (ISPL)
Renowned Bollywood celebrities, including Kareena Kapoor Khan, are set to make their mark in the cricket world through the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL). Departing from traditional street cricket, tapeball, and tapetennis, this new franchise-based league will showcase the talents of street cricket players in a dynamic T-Ten format.
Scheduled to take place in Mumbai from March 2-9, the ISPL will feature six teams—Mumbai, Srinagar, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata—competing in 19 matches, all hosted in stadiums rather than on the streets. Celebrity franchise owners include Amitabh Bachchan (Mumbai), Akshay Kumar (Srinagar), Hrithik Roshan (Bangalore), Suriya (Chennai), Ramcharan and Saif Ali Khan with Kareena Kapoor (Hyderabad and Kolkata duo).
Kareena Kapoor Khan, making her debut as a franchise owner, brings a familial cricket connection as her father-in-law, Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, was once the captain of the Indian cricket team. ISPL aims to provide a platform for India's talented street cricket players, offering opportunities for local cricketers to participate through talent selection across the country.
Leading the competition are key figures such as Mumbai Cricket Association President Amol Kole, BCCI Treasurer Ashish Sheela, and former Indian coach Ravi Shastri, who serves as the main mentor for ISPL.
